Tim Skaggs (performer, producer, co-owner) is a versatile entertainer with 37 years of steady professional experience to his credit, the last three as operator and co-founder of the Whodunit? Murder Mystery Show. His performance crafts include Acting, Standup, Improv, and Storytelling, dating as far back as 1989.
He studied acting in college, under the guidance of Kathleen “Pert” Durapua, a well-respected Fort Worth director and educator known for teaching acting students all aspects of theater production, thus laying the groundwork for his future career. He first appeared on stage in 1990 at Tarrant County College, when Durapua cast him in La Cage Aux GaGa (monk, the devil, and a female wrestler), a sketch comedy, musical farce. The female wrestler, Peppy Pippy from Pittsburgh, Pa. (who was just too darned peppy!) became his first original character creation. He eventually earned a Double Minor in Theater and Sociology, completing his education with a B.S. in Speech Communications at Texas Christian University.
While he enjoyed learning the theater craft, his first career opportunity came in journalism, working as a sports reporter for various publications, most notably the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and San Antonio Express-News. Here, he learned to write efficiently, report objectively, establish trust through strong interpersonal connections with interview subjects, and create engaging human interest stories filled with humor and perspective. Most importantly, he learned to observe and understand human nature, a key component for his future acting trade.
Following a successful 21–year career as a professional journalist, he then returned to the stage in 2012 with a desire to learn Standup -– and once again pursue his love for the arts.
During seven years doing Standup, he earned stage time in San Antonio-based Comedy Clubs such as LOL! and The Improv and participated in the Funniest in South Texas showcase competition for three consecutive years (2015-2017). He also appeared in Testify, Austin’s premiere monthly storytelling showcase, performing original autobiographical works “The Ice Storm” and “Love at The Edge of the Earth.”
In 2017, he added an Improv discipline to his well-round comedic background. He trained for three years at Bexar Stage and Comedy Sportz under IOS certified Improv coach Dan Grimm, and performed in several troupes, including “Oh, Calamity” and “The Bodyguards,” a 2018 San Antonio Impov Royale competition Finalist.
He simultaneously worked six years in lead and support roles for multiple Murder Mystery Dinner Theater Shows, while also branching off and developing his own company, the aforementioned Whodunit Murder Mystery Show in 2021. His company currently features three original scripts, all of which he is an officially credited Co-writer.
